Oyo/Osun Command Seizes Smuggled, Illegal items worth 2.5Billion; Generates Over 14 Billion in Revenue.

The Acting Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Deputy Comptroller Wale Adewole, has informed the public that the Command have recorded significant results in Anti-Smuggling operations and also experience a boost in revenue performance.

He revealed these information to journalists at the press briefs held at the Command headquarters in Ibadan on Thursday, March 26, 2026; as he read out updates of the Command’s operations, particularly in the areas of anti-smuggling enforcement and revenue generation within the period under review.

According to DC Adewole, “Within the period under review, the Command has intensified its surveillance and enforcement strategies across all areas of responsibility. These efforts have yielded significant results in the interception of prohibited and smuggled goods in line with the provisions of Section 245 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023”. He added that their actions is in accordance with the statutory mandate.

He highlighted that the seizures were made at different locations across Oyo and Osun States through credible intelligence and coordinated patrol operations; making the total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seized items amounts to Two Billion, Five Hundred and Thirty-One Million, Ninety-One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Six Naira Only. The items that were seized in the period between the 1st of February to March 26th, 2026 includes:

1. Foreign Parboiled Rice (50kg Each)1,603 Bags

2. Used Clothings – 123 Bales / 18 Sacks

3. Used Shoes – 88 Sacks

4. Used Tyres – 1,351 Pieces

5. Used Compressors- -206 Pieces

6. Cannabis – 1,144 Wraps of Cannabis Sativa

4 Colorado, 1 Canadian Loud, 1 Ace

7. Vegetable Oil – 29 Plastic Bottles

8. Tramadol (250mg) – 3,300 Packs/2,140 Sachets

9. Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) – 692 Kegs (17,300 Liters)

10. Foreign New Textiles- 2,270 Packs

11. Sugar – 20 bags

12. Used Cars (Tokunbo) 1 Lexus Jeep, 1 Toyota Corolla, 1 Toyota Hiance Bus, 1 DAF Head Truck

1 Toyota Avensis, 1 Chevrolet

11. Means of Conveyance – 1 Toyota Highlander Jeepz , 1 Mazda 626,41 Toyota Condom, 1 Mitsibushi Canter

These smuggled items had The TOTAL DUTY PAID VALUE of ₦2,531,091,846.00K

On the revenue generation, DC Adewole also informed the press that the Command generated a total sum of Fourteen Billion, Seven Hundred and Forty-Five Million, Seven Hundred and Forty-One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Six Naira, Five Kobo (₦14,745,741,806.05K) within the period under review.

“This achievement reflects our commitment to blocking revenue leakages, ensuring compliance with extant laws, and facilitating legitimate trade. This achievement when compared to same period last year 2025 where the Command generated the sum of ₦10.1Billion to this year ₦14.7Billion, the Command was able to make a percentage increase of 46.22%”, he said.

He also used the opportunity to warn smugglers and economic saboteurs that the Oyo/Osun Area Command will not relent in its efforts to curb illegal activities. “We are fully committed to enforcing government fiscal policies and protecting the nation’s economy”.

He also appealed to members of the public to support the Nigeria Customs Service by providing timely and useful information that will aid our operations; as compliance with import and export regulations remains the best approach to avoid sanctions. “The Command remains resolute in discharging its responsibilities with professionalism, transparency, and integrity”.

The Acting CAC also expressed sincere appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, and his Management Team for their unwavering support and strategic guidance.

He extends the same appreciation to the traditional rulers across both States for their continuous support in promoting lawful trade and discouraging smuggling within their domains. “I commend our critical stakeholders for their collaboration and compliance with extant regulations”.
