CONMMEP Advocates for Critical Relationship between The Maritime and Media Sector

The President of the Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP), Comrade Udochukwu Onyeka, has called for the exploration of the critical relationship between Maritime security, trade facilitation, national economic development, and the strategic role of the Media.

He made this call during the 2026 Annual General Meeting , Lecture and Awards Ceremony of the association on the 25th of June, at the Presken Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

Comrade Onyeka stated that the theme of the lecture “Maritime Security, Trade Facilitation and the Media”, was a timely and important discourse as both institutions serve a watchdog and partner in promoting national security and sustainable growth.

According to the President, “Today marks another significant milestone in the history of CONMMEP as we celebrate five years of growth, resilience, progress, and impactful contributions to the Nigerian maritime industry. Since our establishment in 2021, we have steadily built a vibrant and respected professional body dedicated to promoting excellence in maritime journalism and fostering constructive engagement within the sector”.

He expresses sincere appreciation to every member of this association for their unwavering support, commitment, and dedication to the ideals of CONMMEP; adding that “Your active participation and steadfast belief in our collective vision have been instrumental in the achievements we have recorded over the years”.

He also acknowledged and commended members of the Executive Committee for their tireless efforts, selfless service, and steadfast support throughout the past year. He pointed out that their hard work, sacrifice, and commitment to the growth of CONMMEP have contributed significantly to the progress we celebrate today.

“As an Executive Council that assumed leadership just a year ago, we remain deeply grateful for the confidence and trust reposed in us. Your encouragement and cooperation have provided the inspiration and motivation needed to pursue our mandate and advance the interests of our association” Onyeka said.

He also expressed an equally deserving commendation to all members who have consistently upheld the constitution, rules, and regulations of the association, through discipline, professionalism, and dedication , which have helped preserve the integrity, unity, and values upon which CONMMEP was founded.

Comrade Onyeka also highlighted that this year’s AGM is the Annual Lecture, which is also the keynote address, was carefully selected to be taken by a renowned maritime practitioner, respected researcher, accomplished educator, and highly sought-after conference speaker, Forwarder Dr. Eugene Nweke, who is also the Head of Research at the Sea Empowerment and Research Centre (SEREC), Lagos.

He added that “as we reflect on our accomplishments over the past year, we must also recognize the lessons learned from our challenges and experiences. These lessons will undoubtedly strengthen our resolve as we continue to build a more formidable, influential, and prosperous association. With optimism, determination, and a shared sense of purpose, we look forward to even greater achievements in the years ahead.

Some of the highlights of the event, was the honouring of some distinguished personalities with the CONMMEP Leadership Excellence Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to national development, leadership, and service to humanity.

Comrade Udo expressed confident that the gathering will provide valuable insights, foster meaningful discussions, and further strengthen our collective commitment to advancing the maritime sector and the journalism profession.b
