…As Badagry riverine residents also benefit from free medical care, food palliatives, fish-smoking kilns and life jackets.

The Blue Lagos Sustainability Initiative, in partnership with Uriel Construction Limited, has commenced construction of five solar-powered boreholes across four local government areas in Lagos State to improve access to safe water in underserved riverine communities.

The initiative also extended its humanitarian outreach to Ebute Ajagun, Iworo and neighbouring communities in Badagry, providing free medical services, food assistance, livelihood support and life jackets to residents.

Uriel Construction Limited is sponsoring all five borehole projects, which are expected to improve domestic water access, sanitation and public health upon completion.

The borehole projects are located in:

– Seje Jegba— Badagry LGA.

– Sagbonkodji — Amuwo-Odofin LGA.

– Olomometa— Ojo LGA.

– Agadangba, Ward C1— Epe LGA.

– Igbo Apawa, Ward D1 — Epe LGA.

The facilities will use solar energy to support sustainable water supply and reduce reliance on conventional electricity, particularly in communities where infrastructure challenges limit access to essential services.

The Badagry outreach featured free medical services sponsored by the Medical and Safety Directorate of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA), while food palliatives were donated by the RHA’s Humanitarian Affairs Directorate.

Dr Oreoluwa Finnih, Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), donated fish-smoking kilns to support local livelihoods.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), under the leadership of Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, Special Adviser to the Governor on Blue Economy, donated life jackets to promote safer transportation and fishing activities.

The intervention targeted communities where geographical barriers and infrastructure deficits often make access to healthcare and other essential services difficult.

The Team Lead of Blue Lagos, Mr Saheed Adesanya, said the initiative remains committed to ensuring that residents of underserved coastal and riverine communities are not excluded from development opportunities because of their location.

He noted that the Badagry outreach builds on previous interventions in communities including Sagbonkodji, Bishop Kodji, Takwa Bay and Ilado-Odo in Amuwo-Odofin, as well as Yegunda, Ito Omu, Isan, Oko-Abe, Ito Osun, Saga, Emina and Take Nla in Epe.

According to Adesanya, Blue Lagos combines immediate humanitarian assistance with longer-term interventions to improve public health, strengthen livelihoods, promote waterway safety and support sustainable community development.

Blue Lagos commended Emmanuel for his strategic support and acknowledged LASWA’s contribution to waterway safety through the life jacket donation.

The initiative also recognised Finnih for sponsoring the medical outreach and donating fish-smoking kilns, as well as the RHA’s Humanitarian Affairs Directorate, led by Ms Bisola Olusanya, for providing food palliatives.

Uriel Construction Limited was commended for sponsoring the five borehole projects, which form part of efforts to address water-access challenges in underserved communities.

Blue Lagos called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, corporate organisations, development partners and community leaders to expand access to safe water, healthcare, livelihood opportunities and waterway safety across Lagos State.

The initiative said it would continue combining humanitarian relief with sustainable community infrastructure across Badagry, Amuwo-Odofin, Ojo, Epe and other riverine areas.

Its guiding principle remains: “No Community Is Left Behind”.
