The Chairman of Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, BASL, Dr. Wale Babalakin, SAN, has inspected facilities at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two, MMA2, Lagos, as preparations intensify for commencement of regional flight operations.
The inspection comes after recent signing of settlement agreement concerning the MMA2 concession, marking a major milestone in resolution of concession dispute and paving way for regional operations.
During the visit, Dr. Babalakin toured key areas undergoing preparatory works, including regional arrivals area, apron extension and staff and concessionaire access gate.
Acting Chief Operating Officer & Head, Aeronautical and Cargo Services, Mr. Remi Jibodu, led team during inspection and presented update on progress of ongoing works.
The Chairman congratulated team on progress recorded so far and commended efforts towards delivering required infrastructure within stipulated timeline. He encouraged them to sustain momentum and ensure all preparations are completed ahead of commencement.
Dr. Babalakin emphasized need for close coordination with relevant government agencies and regulatory authorities to ensure required inspections, assessments and approvals are completed ahead of operations. He specifically stressed need to keep Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, fully engaged throughout process to ensure all applicable regulatory, safety and operational requirements are met.
He also charged team to pay close attention to finishing of facilities, safety standards, operational readiness and effective stakeholder coordination.
Speaking on preparations, Acting Chief Executive Officer of BASL, Mrs. Idunnu Oyebolu, said company is pursuing dual focus — readiness for regional operations and preparation for anticipated increase in passenger traffic during year-end season.
“As we put necessary infrastructure and operational arrangements in place for regional operations, we are equally preparing for anticipated increase in passenger traffic during year-end season. Our priority is to ensure that our facilities, personnel and processes are adequately prepared to deliver seamless, safe and efficient passenger experience during this period,” she said.
Also commenting, Jibodu reaffirmed team’s commitment to meeting required timelines.
“We are committed to meeting stipulated timeline for commencement of regional operations. Following Chairman’s inspection and guidance, we will intensify efforts across all workstreams, strengthen coordination with relevant agencies and regulatory authorities, and ensure that all required inspections and approvals are completed ahead of commencement,” he said.
Ongoing works form part of BASL’s preparations to accommodate regional passengers and facilitate efficient passenger processing and aircraft operations, expected to expand travel options and further strengthen MMA2’s role in Nigeria’s aviation sector and regional connectivity.
