The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has been honoured with the prestigious Times Heroes Award for his outstanding contributions to public service and national development.

The award was presented on Thursday, 3 September 2026, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja during the centenary celebration of the Daily Times newspaper. The event brought together prominent personalities from government, business, and traditional institutions to celebrate individuals and organisations contributing significantly to Nigeria’s growth.

Speaking after receiving the award, Adeniyi described the recognition as an inspiration to serve with greater dedication. He attributed the achievement to the collective efforts of officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), while commending compliant citizens for helping to promote higher standards in public service.

“It’s very good when you do something, and you are recognised; this should be an inspiration to us to do much better,” Adeniyi said.

He dedicated the award to personnel of the NCS, acknowledging their dedication, sacrifices, and continued commitment to safeguarding and serving the nation.

Adeniyi noted that under his leadership, the Service remains committed to increasing revenue generation, strengthening trade facilitation, and accelerating the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.

He further stressed that increased compliance by members of the public would enable the NCS to perform its statutory responsibilities more efficiently and contribute more effectively to national development.
