By Stella Okocha
Nigeria will join the rest of the world to commemorate World Maritime Day 2026 on Friday, October 16, with a focus on advancing maritime excellence and unlocking the nation’s Blue Economy potential.
The celebration, themed *”From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence,”* is expected to be declared open by the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON.
The theme underscores the urgent need to translate maritime policies into measurable outcomes, strengthen regulatory frameworks, promote innovation, and deliver tangible benefits to seafarers and other industry stakeholders.
A keynote presentation titled *”From Policy to Practice: Strengthening Nigeria’s Blue Economy”* will be delivered by Mrs. Mfon Ekong Usoro. The presentation will explore practical strategies for improving industry performance and harnessing Nigeria’s vast maritime resources.
According to the organisers, the commemoration reinforces a vital message: that Nigeria’s maritime future depends not merely on sound policies, but on effective implementation, collaboration, and results.
The statement was signed by Hajia Lami Tumaka, FNIPR, Chairperson, Media Sub-Committee for the event.
